Michelle Lugalia-Hollon is the lead consultant for Layers of Change. She has worked in government, philanthropy and with non-profits focused on addressing maternal and infant HIV/AIDS prevention, violence prevention, homelessness, restorative justice, public health as well as youth, community, and workforce development. She has a master’s degree from the Harvard School of Public Health, '10 and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago, '07. She was born in Kenya and has lived in Houston, Chicago, Boston, relocating to San Antonio with her family in 2015.

Ryan is a strategic advisor for Layers of Change. He stays busy as the CEO for UP Partnership, a cradle to career backbone agency that seeks to ensure all young people in San Antonio are ready for their future. Through Layers of Change, he works as an Executive Coach for the StriveTogether network where he supports new backbone executives on their journey to drive population-level change. He also serves as the Board Chair for the Children’s Funding Project, a national organization focused on growing public investments in children and youth.

Prior to UP Partnership, Ryan served as the executive director for Excel Beyond the Bell San Antonio and the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago’s Youth Safe and Violence Prevention department, as well as a policy researcher at multiple universities. Ryan’s first book, The War on Neighborhoods, was published by Beacon Press and tracks the devastating impact of mass incarceration on one Chicago community area. Ryan was selected as the Outstanding Young San Antonian of 2020 by the Rotary Club of San Antonio. He received a Ph.D. in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago.

When not supporting social change efforts, Ryan enjoys time with his family, traveling, practicing Qi Gong, hiking, cooking and studying the Enneagram.
